This started out as a mono print with procion dyes on cotton- I doodled all over ( with do set idea of where it was going -very free form) - I then random hand stitched in grey rayon thread and after that I machine stitched with black polyester thread. I cut out a section for the SAQA Atlantic trunk show that I call "Contemplating" and the rest I cut up then collage back together and machine stitched with a zig zag. This one I call "Meadow's Edge" . Both will be mated and framed .
"Contemplating" 8"x8"
"Meadow's Edge" 9"x16"
Its been awhile think I will join the Needle and Thread Network

Love the look !!
I have played with this idea myself ... using india ink to outline areas. So far it hasn't been as successful an idea as I had hoped. I suspect I might have to stitch or paint in.
I am alos entertaining the exercise ball … was it easy to get started ?
Thank You - I use a fine tip marker that is water proof - I have tried a few and useuely grab what is at hand and has the tip I want for the effect. To use the exercise ball you need one to fit your height – your feet must be flat to the floor – wear what you would normally wear when you use your machine - I always work the petal in my sock feet. And your upper thighs with knees bent should be perpendicular to the floor. I really can stitch for an hour without aching . I have good balance so it wasn't to difficult I also use it to watch TV or working at the desk. Just don't bounce to much!
Sorry, my spelling was not up to a public comment! I love this technique, its so organic!
I like this a lot, ReBecca!
Fantastic piece, it suggests a hobbit forest to me ....
